As an Army Veteran, Derrick has extensive experience as a Veteran Social Worker, educator, and mentor. He spent the majority of his professional career with the Department of Veterans Affairs -Readjustment Counseling Services. During this time, Derrick was the Director for the Peninsula Vet Center in Redwood City, CA.
Derrick is currently employed with Vitas Healthcare as their Veteran Liaison providing services to Veterans and their families facing end of life issues in Milpitas, CA. He is also an adjunct psychology professor and psychological counselor at De Anza College in Cupertino, CA. Derrick is a strong believer in volunteering and service to the community as demonstrated by his monthly service in the California State Guard. Derrick’s additional volunteer commitments entail: Co-Chairing the Secondary School Committee for University of Pennsylvania (California chapter); being a Gold Plus Life Member of Blacks In Government, Region IX; he’s a Veteran Advocate for the Cooperative Studies Program Coordinating Center and finally, Derrick is on the Human Rights Committee in the Palo Alto Health Care System.
Derrick’s mission in life is to support and encourage those in his sphere of influence and to make his community better.
